PACKAGE DESIGN for
THE TOMTE CAKE
The Tomte Cake is a new take on the classic gingerbread house holiday tradition–complete with an original children's book narrating the story of Tomte and the woodland gnomes to follow along with your family. This Shark Tank phenomenon secured a deal on the show and with a season under their belts but wanted to add a new product line to their Cake Set. I designed, sourced and managed the creation of the Baking Kit complete with custom Frosting Pouches, Cake Mix Bag, and the Baking Kit Tube with guided instructions to hold in all the gnome-made magic, along with a revised box design for the Cake Set to improve the unboxing experience and tradition year after year.

The Tomte Cake was created as a new take on the classic Christmas tradition. Gingerbread houses are notoriously messy, stale, and unappetizing–easily losing the child’s interest. After reaching a deal on Shark Tank, the founder, Miranda Vaughn, needed a team to help execute an additional product line–The Gingerbread Baking Kit. I designed and produced a cohesive packaging set with multiple components to elevate the customer experience. The Baking Kit tube was created to hold the Cake Mix, Frosting Pouches and Sprinkle Set with easy-to-follow instructions, and unique brand elements to enhance and align with the magical storybook experience. I also designed and updated the full custom box design for the original Cake Set. Allowing the magic to be unwrapped every year with a layer by layer experience–first revealing the book, then Tomte the gnome and finally the baking pan. I project managed and lead the creative direction, providing a variety of options and package types, along with vendor sourcing and collaboration to produce these unique custom packaging needs while still being kid-friendly, on-brand and as sustainable as possible.
